Meet Mark
Born and raised in Massachusetts, I grew up always doing something with my hands, playing sports, and definitely being a kid. Sports were a huge part of my life growing up, and gymnastics was really what started that. From gymnastics, to soccer, baseball, and mostly track and field, I spent most of my time at one practice or another. But even so, still had time to get into the basement and build something either by myself or with my brothers. Sports propelled me to get recruited for pole vault at the United States Naval Academy, and in 2015 I graduated with a BS in Systems Engineering and commissioned as an officer in the Marine Corps.
I got selected to be an Aviation Maintenance Officer working with F-18c aircraft. With my own place now, I was able to slowly start building my woodshop, first building things for myself. I started being asked to build various things for friends, and then by word of mouth, people all over South Carolina. Although not under the Vetere Custom Woodworks name yet, this was the beginning.
While in South Carolina, the Marine Corps took me all over the world. I got the chance of a lifetime and deployed with VMFA-312 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt on the second to last Marine Corps F-18c deployment aboard a carrier. It was tough, but a great experience none the less.
Currently, in the Marine Corps I have completed my Masters in Applied Physics at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California with a thesis focused in quantum optics while of course, co-owning Vetere Custom Woodworks out of my garage shop. Hey don’t judge, I bet we both know a few entrepreneurs who started in their garages too.
I’m not always working though. In my free time I like to get outside, hike, shoot, and go to the gym.
